Musical Celebrating Legendary Pioneering Footballer to Arrive in Oxford
‘Our Little Hour’ celebrates the life of Walter Tull.
‘Our Little Hour’, a new musical celebrating the extraordinary life of legendary football pioneer, Walter Tull, will be arriving at the Burton Taylor Studio, Oxford Playhouse in October.
On both Friday 11 and Saturday 12 October (7.30pm on both days, with a 2.30pm matinee performance on Saturday 12 October), audience members will be able to enjoy this new performance, which has been commissioned by Show Racism the Red Card and Live Wire Theatre and stars (below, from left) Leon Newman, Neil Reidman and Susie Broadbent.
Part of a nationwide tour, coinciding with Black History Month 2024, ‘Our Little Hour’ tells Walter Tull’s inspirational story. The grandson of a Barbadian slave, and orphaned at eight-years-old, Walter rose to prominence against all odds.
Walter would become the first black footballer to play at the highest level of the domestic game in the United Kingdom – and would go on to achieve anther historic breakthrough as he became the first man of his heritage to be commissioned as an Officer in the British Army.
Tragically killed in action just a few weeks before the end of the First World War, Walter Tull’s pioneering achievements have earned him a distinguished place in British history.
