Mentoring & Volunteering
Giving back to the game
We all remember our first game.
The nerves.
The excitement.
The adrenaline.
How much better would it have been if you'd had someone who could offer advice, support and a friendly shoulder? Could you be that person now, for a new referee?
We're always looking for people who are willing and able to support referees in the early stages of their development. Mentoring is a rewarding experience for both parties, and helps build confidence and enthusiasm to continue refereeing.
faqs
Do I need any qualifications to be mentor?
You will need to have an in-date FA CRC, Safeguarding Children Certificate and have attended one of our Mentor Training courses.
Do I get paid as a referee?
Yes, you do. Mentors receive a fee to cover time and expenses - for more information on mentor fees please, get in touch.
Do I need to be a referee to be a mentor?
Absolutely not. The skills of a mentor are empathy, encouragement, motivation and communication. If you have these in abundance you are the type of person we're looking for.
I did the Referee Course a year ago - can I be a mentor?
Yes you can.
As a relatively new referee, you will know first hand the kind of support a new referee will appreciate.
How much time will I need to commit?
As much or as little as you can offer - there is no minimum requirement or limit to how much you do.
